I purchased the entire set-up, desk, bookcase and file cabinet/printer stand. The pieces are actually for my smaller front living room so whatever I purchased HAD to be attractive since it would be visible upon entering my home. It looks just as sweet as in the photos and was quick to assemble, save a few screws whose holes were not drilled all the way.

Sure, it is not solid wood but for what it is and how inexpensive it is, it is amazing. But that didn't mean it is not rock solid - the compressed wood board is freakin' heavy and I have no doubts that these pieces will last quite a while if cared for properly.

I only had one issue with the file cainet - it is not 100% squared everywhere so the drawer doesn't slide as smoothly & the piece wobbles a tad AND since the description said file cabinet, I thought that it would accommodate hanging files but it does not. Not a big deal - I just use it for printer supplies and other items I need on hand.

All in all, if you are on a budget and want more for the cash, this set, (if you like the style) is totally worth it.

I chose this set for the look and because I was on a busget for my home office. To start with, it is very attractive and looks fabulous with my decor. It is heavy and feels solid. I recommend a friend to help lift and assemble....not that it can't be done by one person (and I am a semi small woman) but it is awkward and cumbersome. The keyboard slide-out tray catches, sticks and does not stay on the track very well. The file cart/printer-stand does not assemble well and wobbles - the drawer is also a pain to open and close. I use it for storage with items I do not need every day. Keep in mind that is will NOT fit a standard printer - it is too narrow so the side walls will not allow the printer to fit down into the top surface. Now the bookcase is great. Went together easily and is sturday and square. No complaints there.Overall, the set is a decent buy. Not fab but not poor. You get what you pay for and as long as you keep that in mind, you will not be too dissappointed.Word or advice...make sure you have extra wood glue on hand for the pieces that require it as the package does not contain enough for the piece to assemble fully....will totally derail the project if you are not fully prepared.I am torn about recommending to a friend....I might for a budget shopper but most of my friends would probably opt for a solid wood piece. Take this review for what it is. [...]

Comments about Ameriwood Mission Shaker Desk-Espresso:

We purchased this desk for our in-home office. I put it together, with a little help from my husband last night. It took about an hour. The directions could have been a tad better when it came to putting the wheel inserts on the keyboard drawer, but other than that, it was easy. We hope to get some good use out of this desk and are pleased with our purchase.

Comments about Ameriwood Mission Shaker Desk-Espresso:

It's worth the price but not very sturdy. The desk is slightly wobbly and scratches easily. The matching bookshelf is very wobbly and I would not recommend it.

Comments about Ameriwood Mission Shaker Desk-Espresso:

Overall, it's a good value for the price, just don't expect a solid, hardwood desk.

Pros: It's a very nice looking desk and fairly inexpensive. I like minimalist styles so I get flat writing desks for computer use. The top is fairly solid and the desk can support a good deal of weight. It's a fairly large surface, but not overwhelming so will fit nicely in a smaller bedroom or office.

Cons: I hate keyboard trays because they all inevitably fail, and this was no exception. Eventually I just took out the keyboard tray cause I was tired of it falling off. That's really my biggest gripe. The overall construction is fairly solid, but the desk will wobble a bit if you push on it. For people physically writing this may be annoying. For computer use you will not notice.

Neutral: The top is too large to fit through most standard doorways, so if you're moving it from room to room you'd have to remove the surface. It's not a big deal since it easily disassembles, and most desks would have troubles making it through doorways. It's almost a pro since it really is simple removing the top surface. Also, I don't use mousepads so the area under my mouse is a bit worn. Not a con since it's my own fault.

The book shelf is pretty nice, but has some issues. For one, there's no real sides so you'll need something to prevent smaller books from falling out. I have a lot of novels so need to use heavy bookends or larger books to "plug up" the gap on the sides. Not a huge problem, just something to work around. Also, it's fairly tall so will wobble side to side a bit.

I'm very happy with the purchase and would definitely not hesitate to buy this model again.
